This project received a 2013 Award of Excellence from the American Institute of Architects Miami Chapter.

This project transforms and re-invents the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale, underlines the public dimension of the building and creates a place of encounters in downtown Fort Lauderdale.

The project provides a new public identity to the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale.   The Museum is turned inside out to welcome the community and connect the museum with the New River Bubier Park. Additionally, the new Museum becomes a gateway to Downtown Fort Lauderdale and Las Olas Boulevard on Andrews Avenue to further pursue the civic role of the institution in the city.

The addition of a Super Front Porch upon the existing terrace creates an open-air gallery that expands museum space outdoors and acts as a nexus between the museum, the park and the river.  Simultaneously, the intervention introduces a new public scale to the present day structure providing visibility and a clear point of entry to the Museum.

The Super Front Porch and terrace provide new meaning to the existing outdoor stair and together support alternative promenades through the building. Inside galleries upstairs are rearranged and a museum café and restaurant is incorporated next to the terrace. This transformation of the Museum interior, allows the Super Front Porch to work both in connection to the Museum and the park or independently after museum hours to encourage street life and culture in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
